Green Stormwater Infrastructure
Green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) consists of stormwater designs that mimic natural hydrologic processes to manage stormwater runoff at its source. Urban forest systems (trees, ground cover, and soil) can play a key role in reducing and delaying runoff volume, thus helping municipalities better manage the stormwater that comes from within their boundaries. This section provides information for natural resource managers as well as for stormwater engineering professionals to help them make informed decisions about the use of urban forests as a component of the GSI “Treatment Train”.
