Linking Girls to the Land

Linking Girls to the Land is an interagency partnership initiative between the Girl Scouts of the USA's (GSUSA) Elliott Wildlife Values Project and federal natural resource agencies. It provides opportunities for 2.8 million girls nationwide to participate in conservation efforts, career exploration, outdoor recreation, environmental education and volunteer service programs on a national and local level.

Two Linking Girls to the Land events were held in February, 2000. The first in Thomaston (GA), and the second in LaGrange (GA). The events were sponsored by the Girls Scouts of the Pine Valley Council in Griffin, Georgia. Sara Langland was the organizer of the event. Local partners for these events included: USDA Forest Service, USDA NRCS, Georgia Forestry Commission, Alabama Cooperative Extension System (Urban Forestry), private urban forestry consultants, private landscape architects, Perimeter College (Atlanta), the City of Thomaston, Thomaston Master Gardeners, Silvertown Baptist Church, United Methodist Church of LaGrange, and others.

A CD-ROM was developed from the 2 sessions that includes photographs of the events and images captured from the digital microscope.
