Conservation Finance Handbook

Reference Type
Book (Entire)

This book explains and illustrates (with case studies) the Trust for Public Land (TPL) startegic and proactive approach to conservation that they call "greenprinting". Similar to the "green infrastructure" concept, greenprinting incourages communties to plan for their open space in the same way they plan for other aspects of infrastructure--transportation and communication networks, schools, hospitals, and utilities. Greenprinting is a voluntary, incentive-based, land conservation technique that is designed to direct future growth toward areas of existing development while permanently protecting networks of important land.

This book is a "how-to" guide that explains the complex process of securing federal, state, and private conservation funds, and the local process of researching, designing and passing a voter-approved conservation finance measure.

Case studies include DeKalb County (GA) greenspace funding, Jacksonville (FL) Preservation Project, and San Antonio (TX) watershed protection. [Adapted from the Introduction]
