Pine crown-shapes relationship with microfungal communities: evaluation for urban landscape management
Journal, Research (Article)
Microfungal communities, not reported previously in association with various shapes of pine crown, were observed in ornamental collections of the Montreal Botanical Garden, Quebec, Canada, during 1997 and 1998. Results have shown that i) pyramidal and open crown are favorable to host the pathogenic microfungal association Valseto-Sclerophometum; ii) conical and dense to the Sphaeropso-Scoleconectrietum; iii) oval-round and dense to the Cyclaneusmo-Lophodermietum; and iv) flat and dense to the Herpotricho-Truncatelletum association...This information could be interesting for pine selectionists, horticulturists and urban inspectors to evaluate and control the impact of parasitic microorganisms on pines used in urban landscapes.
