Reports on a project to conserve trees on the U.S. Capitol grounds during the construction of a new visitors center. [UMN]

"A state-of-art visitors center is under construction on the east front of the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C. The Architect of the Capitol has taken extraordinary measures to preserve as many trees as possible during the five-year construction period. This is an on-going project intended to save as many of the trees as possible during the five-year construction period. The objective of this paper and presentation is to tell the story of the tree preservation effort at the Capitol as an example of what it really takes to save trees on a difficult construction project."
