Describes partnerships between city water, public works, and electric power utilities in San Antonio, Texas to transform urban forest wood waste and wastewater sludge into high quality compost and mulch. [UMN]

"In San Antonio [Texas], city water, public works and electric power utilities have established effective partnerships to transform urban forest wood waste and municipal wastewater sludge into high quality compost and mulch. Compost produced from wood waste is a key component of the citys water conservation program. The use of compost by the City Parks Department, San Antonio Botanical Gardens and private citizens helps to conserve limited water resources and reduce the impact on endangered species dependent upon water from the Edwards Aquifer. This paper describes how local partnerships have helped to manage urban forest wood waste while conserving other natural resources." [Abstract]
