Cities from space: potential applications of remote sensing in urban environmental research and policy

In this paper, we (1) describe a taxonomy for understanding the emerging urban environment; (2) examine the strengths and limitations of remote sensing for monitoring and managing the urban environment; and (3) suggest directions for future urban environmental research and policy.
