In July 1989 the Countryside and Forestry Commissions launched a national programme to create community forests on the fringes of major towns and cities in England and Wales." "This paper begins by examining the significance of community forests for tourism and proceeds to assess future potential through an examination of community forest plans and through personal communication with the various projects.
