A software for the evaluation of the wind stability of trees: CILVA
Conference Proceedings (Chapter)
"We present an analysis of the stability of urban trees under the effect of wind pressure. The mechanical analysis of the phenomenom of the fall of trees under the wind use[s] an approach of the yield design theory type presented in another paper. Using this approach we have build the software CILVA for the evaluation of the wind stability of trees. The software includes a necessary characteristic database for the calculation, including some of most common species. Data can be modified to take into account local particularities. The software is calculating the rose of forces and the rose of winds that represent the diagram of the critical force (or the critical speed) leading to the rupture of the tree with respect to the direction of wind pressure. The first simulations realized, as well as parametric studies show the general coherence of obtained results." [Abstract]
