Urban Forestry Laboraratory Exercises for Elementary, Middle, and High School Students

This laboratory manual contains numerous ways in which a teacher can educate his/her students about urban forests.

After applying the lab exercises in the classroom, students will gain a better understanding of the environment in the urban landscape. The exercises are set up in order to teach students proper tree identification, tree characteristics, soil conditions, and long-term tree care. The lab manual is broken down into three levels (elementary, middle school, and high school) so that young children do not become overwhelmed and older children are given a challenge. In addition to the outdoor activities, the manual also supplies word search puzzles and quizzes concerning information the students should comprehend after completing the lab exercises. The three main goals for this manual are to ensure students of all ages are educated, able to collect data, and are actively participating within their urban forests. 200 p.
