Carbon Sequestration...What's That?
Basic description of carbon sequestration and attempts to decrease atmospheric carbon dioxide through carbon trading.
This 2-page factsheet gives a basic description of the carbon cycle and carbon sequestration. As a part of international attempts to decrease atmospheric carbon dioxide, developed countries have created protocols giving monetary incentives for companies and landowners to maintain forests and other ecosystems as carbon sinks. Credits are given for how much carbon is stored in these natural sinks, and these credits can be traded for market-based values. Such methods have been criticized by some for only providing a temporary and inadequate solution to the global warming problem.
