Not Seeing the Forest for the Trees

The National Taxpayers Union, a nonprofit, grassroots organization with more than 300,000 members who work for less wasteful spending and a more accountable government, believes the Committee of Scientists missed an opportunity to look at the big picture. The efficient and ecologically sound forest management achieved by some states and corporations argues for devolution of the national forests. But instead, the committee recommends giving more responsibility, and more federal dollars, to an agency that is inefficient, expensive, bureaucratic, and not sufficiently accountable
