Has Ecosystem Management Really Changed Practices on the National Forests?

Reference Type
Journal, Research (Article)

In 1992 the USDA Forest Service adopted ecosystem management as a holistic approach to manage its forests and grasslands. Three recent forest plans were evaluated to ascertain whether they more closely reflect ecosystem management principles than earlier plans. On the George Washington and Francis Marion National Forests, ecosystem management principles have measurably influenced planning and decisionmaking processes, but the new policy has had limited influence on the National Forests & Grasslands in Texas.
