This paper deals with the influences of inital stocking rates and subsequent thinnings on the incidence of wind damage in terms of root or stem failure. It focuses on plantations of P. radiata, but we believe that the mmain relationship noted probably apply, in braod terms, to most tree species grown in stands of even age.
