Urban forestry landscapes - progressing the social agenda

Reference Type
Conference Proceedings (Chapter)

Using questionnaires, interviews and focus groups, the work examines the usage patterns and perceptions of the public to an urban forest complex where the public have a choice of visiting 240 woodlands contained in the 3,000 ha urban area of Redditch New Town, UK. Results point towards the high social value of urban woods as an urban support mechanism, capable of relieving the stresses of everyday urban life, as a reference point for personal and intergenerational events, the social difference between local access and public access, and the implications for urban woodland provision and management.
