Abstract: To better understand the wildland-urban interface across the 13 Southern States and to identify issues to be covered in the USDA Forest Service report, 'Human Influences on Forest Ecosystems: The Southern Wildland-Urban Interface Assessment,' 12 focus groups were conducted in 6 of the Southern States in May and June 2000. The groups were guided through a series of questions that enabled them to describe the interface in their region, list the factors that are driving change, and the key issues associated with the interface. The groups also discussed the challenges and opportunities in the interface and what they need to do a better job.
