Woodscaping for small landowners in southern New England

Abstract: Woodscaping---combining forest management and landscaping principles to create natural beauty, wildlife habitat, and recreational opportunities around one's own home---is proving more relevant than traditional forestry to many small woodland owners. In Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, some owners of 4 to 25 acres of woodland are employing help, but most are do-it-yourselfers in need of information and products. Where extension services do not have the resources to reach this part of the increasingly fragmented forested landscape, enterprising foresters might fill the niche.
