Abstract:	This report was published to focus attention on a developing lifestyle trend and on how this trend affects fire safety. For several reasons, we are seeing a major population shift from urban to rural living. More and more homes are being built on scenic sites and slopes in forests and other wildlands. The result is that now vast areas of America contain high-value properties intermingled with highly flammable native vegetation.
