Abstract: In this chapter, some of the important topics relating to the occurrence and use of water in the city are presented. The first section discusses how man has altered the hydrologic cycle in the city, including facets of its flood hydrology, sediment production, changes in water quality, water treatment and removal. The next section looks at urban man's water demands and needs and how these may be satisfied by controlling surface runoff and by withdrawing water from underground. The final part discusses the important topic of urban water management for the future, including aesthetic, cultural, and environmental considerations.
