Abstract: This national resource assessment of urban tree and landscape residue is designed to provide important baseline data to assist the arboriculture and urban forestry industries in meeting increasing social and regulatory pressures. Twenty-three state legislatures plus the District of Columbia have banned the disposal of tree and landscape residue in landfills in one form or another. Further, an additional eight states are scheduled to implement bans by the end of 1996. Legislation of this form greatly affects both the financial health and disposal practices of urban forestry-related businesses.
