Urban fringe forestry in Hong Kong

Abstract: The Metropolitan Urban Fringe Forestry Program commenced in 1991 with the aim of afforesting 60 ha. of eroded and degraded land on the urban fringe of the metropolitan area of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. The objectives of the program were to control soil erosion, enhance areas of degraded land with in the urban fringe and to protect and enhance potential recreation areas. The program will continue for five years at a cost of HK$9.0M.
