Abstract: |
An Urban-Rural Continuum provides a simple, practical way to classify forest resources and estimate the size and extent of the urban forest. Metropolitan counties contain over 26 percent of the Southeast's timberland acreage- about 28 million acres- and over 26 percent of its standing sawtimber and softwood and hardwood growing stocks. A ten-point Urban-Rural Continuum which codes counties from most highly urbanized to most rural allows even more precise stratification of timber resources. |
