Abstract: The challenge of managing for healthy riparian areas means coming to grips with our heritage, understanding how the land and streams change, dealing with diverse and divisive issues, learning to read the land and rivers, expanding our set of management tools, and, most important, seeing with the vision of community. It is our purpose to bring an understanding of riparian values and riparian functions to a community vision of place, a landscape that holds ponds and lakes, grows forests, and gives of itself in a river that runs through it. This is a place where living includes both work and play, where working the land means improving the watershed’s landscape.
