Abstract: The Social and Economic Dimensions of Ecosystem Management unit of the USDA Forest Service's North Central Research Station, in cooperation with several universities, initiated a study of communities who are taking steps to increase their preparedness for wildfire. They are seeking answers to two questions: what steps has the community taken to increase wildfire preparedness, and what social resources/conditions have been necessary to support these steps? The desired outcome is to increase wildfire preparedness by suggesting actions a community can take given its social and landscape characteristics. This is one of their case studies.
