Abstract: State of the South 2000 analyzes how developments related to globalization are affecting Southerners and the Southern economy. The report discusses trends in business mix changes, trade, foreign direct investment, occupational mix changes, immigration, and workforce readiness. We explore the implications for education, workforce training, and the economic and social well-being of the region's people and communities. Through dissemination and related policy development, we convey the report's findings and recommendations to the region and its decision-makers, including business leaders, legislators, governors, educators, philanthropists, and nonprofit leaders.
