Abstract: Wildlife management professionals must expand their traditional concerns to give increased attention to urban wildlife planning for several reasons: a) to meet the increasing needs of urban residents for non-consumptive uses of wildlife; b) to counteract the ill effects of urbanization on wildlife habitat; c) to foster development and support of sound wildlife management policy by educating urban residents and politicians. Managers must actively participate in both short-term planning for habitat rehabilitation and long-term planning to preserve habitat through land-use control. Case studies of TVA's work with community groups and planning agencies demonstrate this approach.
