Abstract: A program to educate the citizens of Florida about the risk of wildfire and how they can reduce their risk was developed by a partnership of agencies and organizations. The information was delivered in high-risk communities by Cooperative Extension Agents and Division of Forestry field staff. Professional training for these groups was an integral part of the program. To make the training and program successful, a needs assessment was conducted of the general public, resource materials were created for agents and staff to use, on-going support was offered to the agents and staff as they conducted their programs, and opportunities for feedback and revisions were a part of every phase of the process. An evaluation indicates that the training program was helpful, the materials were useful, and community education activities were conducted. A model of this process is offered.
