Private property rights: The conflict and the movement

Author: George, Lewis
Date: 1995
Periodical: Journal of Forestry
Abstract: The ultimate force behind the private property phenomenon may simply be an increasing population. When users are scarce and resources are plentiful, it makes little sense to organize property. It is when this relationship reverses that it becomes necessary to define an ownership system. As more and more stress is put on natural resources and environmental externalities, it becomes necessary to recreate more sophisticated ownership systems.
