Mismanagement by the small landowner: Fact or fiction

Author: McComb, W.H.
Date: 1975
Periodical: Journal of Forestry
Abstract: The terms "small woodland owner" and "poor forestry practices" have been coupled since the beginning of the application of scientific forestry practices in the South. Early surveys and observation showed this often to be the case. Now, decades later, we still blame the small landowner for much of the failure of forests to approach potential yield. What is the situation? Perhaps a review of recent survey data from Georgia will help answer the question, or at least balance the argument as to whether mismanagement by the small landowner is indeed fact or fiction.
