Making your landscape more resistant to wildfires

Abstract: Frequent, low-intensity fires have been a part of Florida's natural history for thousands of years. However, in the past few years many homes and entire developments have been built near or in the forest. The wildland-urban interface is expanding. The suggestions in this article are only appropriate for structures located in areas that are surrounded by forests or overgrown vacant lots where controlled burning may not be feasible. This information is not appropriate in more densely populated urban areas or for structures with an existing defensible zone.
