Land use assessment: Independent studies reveal positive fiscal benefits for Virginia localities

Author: Moore, Martha
Date: 1993
Periodical: Virginia Land Use Digest
Abstract: The reason land use assessment is coming under more scrutiny is because the general public believes the program is simply a tax break for the wealthy. The general public does not realize that even with land use assessment that land in agriculture, forestry production and open space pays its fair share in taxes for the dollar amount of services it receives. For every dollar in revenue that farm, forest, or open space land puts into the county, only about 25 cents is given in services.
