Land resource economics and sustainable development

Author: Van Kooten, G. Cornelis
Date: 1993
Periodical: Vancouver, BC: UBC Press
Abstract: This book presents a pragmatic approach to the issues of land use and sustainable development. Breaking away from the narrow focus of most economics texts on resources, this unique book encompasses current political and ecological concerns, but at the same time provides readers with the essential economic tools for rationally discussing land-use conflicts. In combing economics with ecology, the book is able to address a wide range of resource issues that have not been discussed in other economics texts. These include soil erosion, wetlands preservation, global climate change, urban/rural conflict, urban land use, range management, forest management, and management of public land for multiple use. The broad scope and practical perspective of this text make it useful to students, interdisciplinary researchers, and professional economist and managers working in the fields of economic development, the environment, agriculture, and forestry.
