Helping to save homes

Author: Sikes, J.Y.

Abstract: As sobering as it may be, wildfires now regularly occur near or in our own backyards. The rising threat comes with an ever-increasing desire to live in natural settings. It is fueled by a highly flammable accumulation of pine needles, dead leaves and branches. The threat is so great that the state Division of Forestry has identified seven Gainesville neighborhoods as high-risk for wildfires: Haile Plantation, Kenwood, Jockey Club, Buck Bay, Hidden Lake, Whitney Park and Turkey Creek Forest.
