Abstract: This discussion of forest health will center largely on the context of land use; that is, a continuum of varying and often highly altered forests on land somewhere between the natural forest and the inner city. These forests in the wildland-urban interface are perceived, influenced, and used by people in a variety of ways, for a variety of purposes, and across a range of intensities. This chapter attempts to take a holistic approach for forest health, recognizing that there are also operating constraints.
