Ecosystem-based management on multiple NIPF ownerships

Abstract: Both professional foresters and the general public are increasingly interested in an ecosystem-based approach to forest management. This emerging interest raises the question of how such an approach might apply in a landscape that is dominated by numerous nonindustrial private forest (NIPF) ownerships. This article reports on the results of a pilot study of a voluntary, incentive-based program in one town in western Massachusetts.
