Abstract: A relationship exists between the pattern of residential development and the potential costs and losses from wildfire in the immediate area. It arises through interactions involving risk, hazard, institutional response and asset exposure. Different development patterns can be linked to impacts on fire service workload. Probable fire scenarios can assist fire managers in offering sound advice to developers and planning staffs to limit potential losses. This paper presents a framework for reflecting these observations.
