Community forestry, defined

Abstract: The new discipline of community forestry links sustainable forestry to community well-being. Although community forestry has been practiced for many yeasrs in the developing world, it did not emerge in the United States until relatively recently. Community forestry efforts, which been undertaken most visibly in rural areas, combine conservation with economic development and cultural values to benifit the local population.
