Abstract: The purpose of this project was to assemble in one convenient location the current major forest health and wildfire hazard assessments that have recently been completed for Colorado. It can be viewed as a "Status of Our Knowledge " A methodology for conducting hazard assessments has been provided, along with a sample "Mid-Level" Fire Risk Assessment. This Mid-Level Assessment was completed to provide a consistent, large scale assessment that crosses all jurisdictional and political boundaries. It uses, for the most part, readily-available data to demonstrate that very useful assessments can be completed without great expenditures of time or effort gathering and developing new data. Our objective is that your county will see the need for, and the value of, such assessments. And, as a result of this understanding, undertake planning and preparedness activities that you deem necessary at your local level. These assessments will help you determine where action is needed. The assessment methodology provided will guide you if you feel you can improve on the information contained within this report by using more accurate, locally-developed data. We encourage you to do so.
