Changing people, changing values, changing forests

Abstract: The Urban/Wildland Interface promises to continue to challenge resource managers. New residents with different value priorities and a different image of forests are changing the social environment of resource management. Resource managers need to join in building institutions giving residents, agencies and local organizations the capacity to make joint decisions. All actors must first recognize their interdependence and create an effective political community before institutions based on public deliberation are created. Resource managers can play an important leadership in the process of institution building.
