Beyond the urban fringe: Land use issues of nonmetropolitan America

Author: Platt, Rutherford H.; Macinko, George
Date: 1983
Periodical: Minneapolis, MN: University of Minnesota Press
Abstract: The present volume grows out of a recent gathering of professional geographers and fellow researchers held during June 1980 in College Park, Maryland under the aegis of the Association of American Geographers with grants from the National Science Foundation, the Office of Water Research and Technology, and the Geography Program of the U.S. Geological Survey. The papers presented there and in this volume reflect a broad spectrum of research on problems of land use in nonmetropolitan areas. It is perhaps a new "point of beginning" for the application of geographical inquiry to the understanding and resolution of land use issues of the nation's hinterland.
