Abstract: Owning a home in the woods is a dream come true for many people. Living in a forested setting offers unique advantages but presents unique challenges. This guide to Backyard Forest Stewardship is especially designed for people who live "in the woods" of western Washington. However, most of the information is also useful to owners of small parcels of undeveloped forest land. This guide will show you "how to": keep your home and family safe from natural hazards, including wildfire; keep your forest healthy and attractive; and improve wildlife habitat in your yard and forest. In the sections that follow, you'll find information which illustrates "do's and don'ts" for your house, your yard, and your woodlands.
