Virginia Invasive Plant Species List

The Virginia Invasive Plant Species List comprises species that are established — or may become established — in Virginia, cause economic and ecological harm, and present ongoing management issues.

This list includes some tree species found in the urban forest:

  • Tree-of-heaven (Ailanthus altissima)
  • Chinese privet (Ligustrum sinense)
  • Norway maple (Acer platanoides)
  • Mimosa (Albizia julibrissin)
  • Royal Paulownia (Paulownia tomentosa)
  • Callery pear (Pyrus calleryana)
  • Chinaberry (Melia azedarach)
  • White mulberry (Morus alba)
  • Silver poplar (Populus alba)
  • Siberian elm (Ulmus pumila)
