Using Trees To Save Energy

Trees provide many benefits to a homeowner, but it is important to pick the right tree for the right place.

“Trees modify temperatures and energy use by providing shade, absorbing heat, controlling winds, and evaporating water from leaf surfaces.”  Their presence will lower costs for homeowners by reducing electricity bills in the home and decreasing the amount of air-conditioning necessary to cool an inactive vehicle.  This eight page publication also contains suggested trees for planting around homes. These trees have non-aggressive roots to prevent damage to pavement and foundations.  They also lack messy fruits and flowers that can create stains.  There is also a list of trees not recommended for residential land due to their invasive nature.
