Urban Forestry in Washington's Cities and Towns

Cities and towns in the state of Washington need to implement an urban forest management plan to manage trees for optimal service and benefits.

The fact sheet states the needs of an urban forest management program in the state of Washington.  Currently, based on research, Wahington has fewer urban forest management programs than other states.  "The organizational, administrative, and technical capacity for managing community trees in Washington is low" [page 1].  Additionally, "most communities lack clear goals and objectives for tree care, and are not readily able to state the purposes of their work" [page 1].  Six components are highly important and recommended for urban forest management in Washington; these are a tree inventory, management plan, routine tree care, tree code and ordinance, tree protection and retention ordinance, and an Arbor Day celebration.
