Trends in Urban Forestry Practices, Programs, and Sustainability: Contrasting a Pennsylvania Study
This Journal of Arboriculture article compares past urban and community surveys for measuring and increasing the sustainability of urban forests to a recent (2001) survey completed in Pennsylvania. The article gives an overview of the defined history of sustainability as it relates to urban forestry as well as factors impacting shade tree commission authorities. It also discusses urban forestry programs in smaller communities as opposed to city-based programs, compares various practices (inventory, tree ordinance, Arbor Day) as per local, regional and national studies.
