Staking and Guying Newly Planted Trees

This publication describes the benefits and hazards associated with staking and guying during the first growing season.

When properly executed, these common practices will promote root growth and support the weight of the branches.  They will also prevent uneven trunk growth.  It is important to install these aids correctly or tree injury may occur.
