Maryland and Massachusetts Street Tree Monitoring Pilot Projects

This is the project report for street tree sampling methods tested in Maryland (2001) and Massachusetts (2002) as part of the National Forest Health Monitoring Program.

The objective of this pilot study was to assess the feasibility and applicability of statewide street tree assessments. The results of this pilot will be used to refine the data collection protocol for future monitoring studies.

The street tree monitoring is being done concurrently with an expansion of the Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program to include urban forests. FIA urban forest health monitoring has been tested in Indiana, Colorado, Tennessee and Wisconsin. [SCUFR&I]
