Greenways: A Guide to Planning, Design, and Development
The word greenway connotes two seperate images: green suggests natural amenties-forests riverbanks, wildlife; way implies a route or path. When you out them together you describe a vision of natural corridors crisscrossing a landscapes that has been transformed by development. Greenways serve several functons. They provide open space for human access and recreational use, and they serve to protect and enhance remaining natural and cultural resources. Creating a greenway can cost millions and millions of dollars. An understanding of commnity goals, resource constraint, and recreational needs, can shape a greenway and its purpose into just about any form.
