Creating an Urban Oasis
This film depicts actions taken by Missouri communities to ensure the longevity and biodiversity of trees in the urban landscape.
“As our cities have grown, so has the emphasis on creating and improving their ‘green spaces.’ Urban forests now occupy about 69 million acres throughout the United States. The pressures on these urban trees (pollution, vandalism, development, etc.) combine to make it tough to keep out cities green. This movie shows how some Missouri communities are planning, planting, and maintaining their trees. The varied programs deal with such essentials as watering and pruning to more unusual efforts such as leaf composting on a community-wide scale.”
“Most trees in the cities, however, are privately owned. So it helps to look at the decisions each of us can make in caring for trees. Tips from an architect, a landscape architect, an arborist, a developer and urban foresters identify important things to consider when you’re trying to add or keep trees where you live.”
