Construction Injury to Trees

This is a short publication on how to protect trees in New Mexico from construction damage.

Home building is booming in New Mexico's natural and urban forests.  Populations from cities near New Mexico's mountains are expanding into pinon covered foothills and stretching along the edge of deciduous riparian woodlands.  Primary and vacation homes are being built in growing mountain communities in ponderosa pine and mixed conifer forests.  Even within cities new homes or additions to existing homes are being built beneath the shade of established landscape trees.  Trees add value and beauty to a homesite, but protecting them during construction is often neglected.
